A primeira Casa da Mulher Brasileira foi inaugurada em Campo Grande (MS), no dia 3 de fevereiro passado e é um dos eixos do programa Mulher, Viver sem Violência coordenado pela Secretaria de Políticas para as Mulheres da Presidência da República.
The installation of the country's first rape center in Mato Grosso do Sul is emblematic, since the state has the second highest number of rape cases in Brazil and Campo Grande is the capital with the highest rate of rape cases recorded in the country. The mission of the Casa da Mulher unit will be to demonstrate to the whole of Brazil, with an example of care, welcome and support for women, that it is possible to change the culture of gender violence.
The Brazilian Women's House integrates specialized services for the most diverse types of violence against women in the same space. It welcomes and screens women; provides psychosocial support; makes referrals to the police station, when appropriate, or to the courts; provides access to the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Public Defender's Office; promotes economic autonomy; offers childcare; has transit accommodation and a transport hub, facilitating access to specialized services to ensure conditions for confronting violence and empowering women.
Present at the inauguration, President Dilma Roussef said: "In these houses we want to make possible the joint attack of all the organs of the Brazilian state, all the organs of the federation, the police, the Public Defender's Office, the Public Prosecutor's Office, together acting in a unified way to ensure that, in fact, the Brazilian state, no matter which government, has zero tolerance for the violence that befalls women. (...) It is our duty, the duty of all of us, to ensure that women live without fear, that they have the right to build their lives without fear and without offense."
The House's services include:
- Reception and screening team - the gateway to the Casa da Mulher Brasileira. It is based on the formation of bonds of trust and speeds up the referral of women to other services in the House or the Network, when necessary.
- Multidisciplinary team - psychosocial care and works to overcome the impact of the violence suffered and restore self-esteem, autonomy and citizenship.
- Specialized Women's Police Station (Deam) - a Civil Police unit for the prevention, protection and investigation of crimes of domestic and sexual violence, among others.
- Specialized Courts for Domestic and Family Violence against Women - Justice bodies responsible for processing, judging and executing cases resulting from domestic and family violence, as provided for in the Maria da Penha Law.
