Amalia Fischer, general coordinator of the ELAS Fund, took part in the Innovation Forum of the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA), which took place in Marrakesh, Morocco, on November 12 and 13, as part of the program for COP22, the UN climate conference.

Amalia traveled at the invitation of Prospera - International Network of Women's Funds, which is associated with the GGCA and offered, in partnership with Wedo (Women's Environment & Development Organization), a grant for women's funds to be represented at the Forum.

"The ELAS Fund's desire to participate in the Forum is due to the institution's interest in mobilizing resources to support women's organizations in the field of gender equity and climate change. The ELAS Fund has a partnership with the CASA Socio-Environmental Fund, with other women's funds in South America and with CFEMEA precisely to invest in this area," says Amalia Fischer.

The aim of the Forum was to bring together grassroots organizations, women's funds, researchers, students and various networks to reflect on gender-sensitive environmental policies and exchange experiences on best practices for their implementation.
"The topics were very diverse," says Amalia. "One of the most interesting debates was Gender-budgeting for climate policy: Making the budget work for women and girls, where all the important and necessary information related to countries' budgets and what should be used for gender equality and climate change was developed and given, an important tool for women's organizations to demand that governments comply with the agreements signed and commitments acquired at COPs 21 and 22."

"Another issue addressed at the Forum was the importance of making sure that climate finance has a 100% return on investment in gender equity. It's important to understand that funding for gender equity and climate change is a political issue, not a technocratic checklist issue, it's also a human rights issue. To the extent that there is inequality between men and women, climate change will (and does) affect women and children more, but women should not be seen as victims. Women have to have full access and equal participation with men in decision-making, as well as achieving gender equity goals through access to resources and capacity-building," says Amalia.
