What can a project or initiative bring to better work with the reality of young women and portray feminist movements in Brazil - a society with so much inequality in terms of gender, race, class, age and sexuality? What is a feminist perspective? How do young women participate in groups and collectives? How do feminism, youth and other social movements intertwine? These were some of the questions we asked this year when we received around 130 proposals from Brazil for the Frida call for proposals.
With the withdrawal of international cooperation from Brazil, many work dynamics are being rethought by feminist organizations. In addition, we live in a context of growing participation of young women in feminism, where we have presented the movement with demands and responses on the mobilization of resources for feminist social transformation actions. On the one hand, ways of exercising self-sustainability are always more often used to deal with a lack of financial resources. On the other hand, this also seeks to resolve the control of resource sources in the hands of older people over younger people, as a result of adultocentrism.
In this context, FRIDA's work is important for consolidating the role of young feminists, and it is also unique, since decisions are made through a transparent, participatory and horizontal process, in which the groups requesting the information are part of. In Brazil, we are currently experiencing a conservative upsurge that has sought not only to confront social movements, but also to criminalize their instruments of denunciation, demand and mobilization. Recently, we have seen the removal of the term "gender" from municipal, state and national education plans, as well as the approval of bills that disrespect women's sexual and reproductive rights and the approval of a reduction in the age of criminal responsibility from eighteen to sixteen - immeasurable defeats that go against historical demands for progress in the fight against sexism, racism, lesbophobia, transphobia and adultocentrism.
Against this backdrop, it is important to emphasize the importance of the diversity of approaches and subjects in the proposals submitted to the Frida call for proposals, covering problems as diverse as violence against women, lack of access to sexual and reproductive rights, women's political participation and the unfair division of care tasks.
