The ELAS Fund team greets Nadine Gasman as Mexico's new Minister for Women. On Wednesday the 20th, INMUJERES - Instituto Nacional de las Mujeres (National Women's Institute) announced that the current representative of UN Women Brazil had been appointed by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as the new head of the Institute.
A Mexican doctor with a PhD in Public Health from Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities, Nadine has extensive experience in planning and evaluating health policies and has worked as a consultant in more than 15 countries. She was director of the United Nations Secretary-General's UNA-SE Campaign - All Against Violence Against Women for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Since July 2013, Nadine Gasman has been the UN Women Representative in Brazil, where she has led various actions and campaigns to end violence against women, for women's participation in politics, for women's economic empowerment, with the aim of moving Brazil towards a 50-50 country, where men and women have the same opportunities. It has formed broad partnerships within the framework of initiatives such as the Eles Por Elas campaign, which involved various sectors of society, such as companies and the mainstream media, in the quest for gender equality.
"On the eve of International Women's Day, I conclude my mission at the head of UN Women Brazil with great joy for the path I have traveled with Brazilian women. I take with me more knowledge of the wisdom of the political organization of women, black, indigenous, rural, young, LBTI, among others, and the energy needed to serve as president of the National Women's Institute of Mexico (Inmujeres), with the purpose of building substantive gender equality for all Mexican women. We continue together for a 50-50 planet with gender parity and the empowerment of all women," said Nadine Gasman.
Nadine has worked in partnership with the feminist movement, taking the agendas of women's movements to the UN. She is also a great partner of the ELAS Fund, having always personally and institutionally supported the only women's fund in Brazil. We have partnered together with Rede Globo's Social Responsibility for a campaign for gender equality on March 8, and also with ESPM to develop a project focused on gender equality in advertising. UN Women Brazil is currently a partner of the ELAS Fund in the Contemporary Feminisms, ELAS in the Exact Sciences and ELAS in Sports programs.
