The ELAS Fund was voted one of the 100 best NGOs in Brazil in 2018. The award, presented on November 1, is an initiative of the consultancy Mundo Que Queremos, Instituto Doar and Rede Filantropia, which believe that NGOs that do good work need to be identified, recognized and used as inspiration for other entities, as well as receiving support from the population.
"Our aim is to encourage the dedication of those who are doing good work," says Marcelo Estraviz, president of the Instituto Doar. There are 820,000 NGOs in Brazil, according to a 2017 IPEA survey."We want to highlight organizations with better management and transparency, which are better prepared to receive donations from individuals," he explains. "What is assessed is whether the NGO has good management, transparency and therefore generates security and trust for the donor," says Estraviz.
The event took place in São Paulo, at the MAM, and selected the best representatives of the third sector from more than 2,500 entries. The purpose of the ranking is to identify those that carry out the best organizational practices, good governance and transparency for society, among others.
For Amalia Fischer, co-founder and general coordinator of the ELAS Fund, the award is recognition of serious work: "It means that the ELAS Fund is a serious organization that fulfils its mission and the important requirements that a civil society organization must have in terms of transparency, ethics and values. This translates into being a trustworthy institution".
