The Avon Institute and the ELAS Fund are launching the third call for proposals for the Speak Without Fear Fund. More than 3 million reais will be invested to end domestic violence. The competition, which will be the 21st held by the ELAS Fund, will select 30 projects throughout Brazil. The projects must mobilize creative and innovative strategies, capable of reaching women from different backgrounds and accessing the public policies and laws that exist to tackle this problem.
Civil society organizations, informal or mixed women's groups and student women's groups dedicated to the promotion and defence of women's rights and/or human rights with experience of working to combat violence against women are eligible to apply. In the case of mixed organizations, the project must be coordinated by a woman. The groups must have been working to combat violence against women for at least one year.
The call for proposals earmarks R$2 million for direct donations to the groups, covering three categories of support:
- In the case of small projects or those run by informal groups and/or student groups: projects of up to R$30,000.00 (thirty thousand reais).
- Formal organizations: up to 10 organizations with medium-sized projects worth up to R$ 50,000.00 (fifty thousand reais).
- Formal organizations: up to 10 organizations with large-scale projects worth up to R$ 120,000.00 (one hundred and twenty thousand reais).
The Speak Without Fear Fund
The result of a partnership between the Avon Institute and the ELAS Fund, the Speak Without Fear Fund has been supporting actions by civil society groups and organizations that promote the fight against violence against women since 2012. The strategic partnership for the cause brings together the experience with women's organizations that has characterized the ELAS Fund's work for 15 years and the Avon Institute's strength of action and fundraising, through the global campaign Speak Without Fear - No to Domestic Violence, which has directed important resources to the cause in recent years.
The Speak Without Fear Fund has already supported 42 projects and has been strengthened by the results achieved by grantees. The partnership opens up enormous potential for building a new culture of giving. It means support for countless actions that will be carried out by women's groups and organizations to combat domestic violence, bringing about social change in their local realities and consequently in the country. It also represents endless opportunities for social transformation, through the multiplication of information and actions on ending domestic violence, as well as dialogue between various actors.
With this 3rd call for proposals, the Fale Sem Medo Fund is reaffirming its proposal to institutionally strengthen, through financial support, training and monitoring, groups and organizations that develop initiatives focused on women's human right to a life free of domestic violence, with safety, freedom, peace and health.
