The ELAS Fund was present at the 2nd National Meeting of the Brazilian Lesbian/ABL Articulation, which took place from December 1st to 3rd at the Maré Museum.
"Despite the difficulty of mobilizing resources for the rights of LBT (lesbian, bisexual and trans) women in the country and internationally, the ELAS Fund has supported the resistance of these women since its foundation," said Savana Brito, program manager of the ELAS Fund, who attended the meeting with communications advisor Jéssica Pires.
The meeting is one of the activities of the Empodera Sapatão project : lesbians in resistance, carried out by the Brazilian Lesbian Articulation (ABL) with the support of the ELAS Fund through the Building Movements - Contemporary Feminisms call for proposals.
The support made it possible for representatives of the ABL to take part in the Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Meeting with a focus on training new political leaders, enabling Brazilian lesbian activists to occupy spaces and connect with women from other countries.
The aim of the meeting in Rio de Janeiro was to strengthen activists in the current context of regression, LGBTphobia, racism and intolerance, as well as to multiply and internalize the debates brought back from EFLAC.
"Living in Brazil is very risky for lesbian, bisexual and transgender women, especially when sexual orientation and gender identity intersect with other factors such as race and class. That's why we reaffirm the importance of strengthening the resistance of these women by supporting projects like ABL's," concludes Savana Brito.
