KK Verdade, executive coordinator of the ELAS Fund, is one of the guest speakers at the Girls in Science Symposium, which the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences (MAST) is hosting on August 21.

The Symposium is part of the Promoting Gender Equity in Science event, which includes a series of activities related to the theme of Women in Science on August 21 and 22.

The initiative is a partnership with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), the Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) and the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS-Lacrep).

KK Verdade will present the ELAS in the Exact Sciences program, a partnership between the ELAS Fund, the Unibanco Institute, the Carlos Chagas Foundation and UN Women that aims to bring girls closer to the exact sciences and technologies. In addition to KK, the speakers will include our partner Sandra Unbehaum, from the Carlos Chagas Foundation, and representatives of projects supported by ELAS in the Exact Sciences, such as the Engenheiras da Borborema, Tem Menina no Circuito, Meninas na Ciência, Energéticas and ProgrAmazonas projects.

In addition to the symposium, MAST will be promoting an experience of immersion in science with the activity Girls in Science: Adventure at the Museum, which will give 20 girls from the Olavo Bilac School a real immersion in the activities developed at the institution, with a tour of the Imperial Quarter of São Cristóvão and the Campus that the Museum shares with the National Observatory (ON), getting to know the pavilions of the equatorial lunettes, typical examples of architecture and engineering for astronomy.
