Last Saturday, May 21, 2016, we lost a great warrior. Jucimara Moreira, one of the most important activists in the fight against AIDS in Brazil, died at the age of 39.

Mara, as she was known, was a member of the Grupo Pela Vidda Rio, the Movimento Nacional das Cidadãs Posithivas and the Rede Nacional de Pessoas Vivendo com HIV/Aids. She had been hospitalized in serious condition for over a month and did not survive.

Mara leaves behind a legacy of fighting against prejudice and for better health for people living with HIV/Aids, as well as a lot of joy and strength in life.

Below is an interview conducted in 2013, at the time of the 18th ELAS Fund Project Competition, with the support of the MAC AIDS Fund, which supported organizations of women living with HIV/AIDS.
