High school students from public and private schools in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, aged between 14 and 19, who dedicate themselves to social projects as volunteers, can register to take part in the Community Spirit Award, which the US company Prudential Financial is holding for the second time in Brazil. The award was created in 1995 with the aim of recognizing teenagers who do volunteer work. In addition to Brazil, young people from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Ireland, China and India have already been honored.
To take part, young people must register the projects in which they volunteer online (www.premioprudential.com.br), describing the objectives and results achieved. The top three winners will take part in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards celebration, which will take place in Washington, USA, in May 2017, when young Brazilians will be able to exchange experiences with winners from other countries.
Applications opened on May 16 and will run until September 9. Last year, 26 volunteer projects were finalists. That number will now rise to 30, from which the three best will be chosen.
The winners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as cash (R$10,000, R$5,000 and R$3,500) to be used in the institutions where they carried out their volunteer work.
