November 25th is the International Day of Non-Violence against Women. Data from the Secretariat for Women's Policies shows that reports of violence against women rose 112% from January to July 2010, compared to the same period last year. In the first seven months of this year, the Women's Call Center, a toll-free number for complaints, registered more than 300,000 calls, compared to around 160,000 in the same period last year.

This week, Unifem and the Avon Institute launched the website www.quebreociclo.com.br. The space provides information on the Maria da Penha Law, expert opinions and a forum for internet users to give their opinions and send in their stories. There is also a library with solved cases and publications.
