Maria Mulher receives award from Rio Grande do Sul government
The organization black women Maria Mulher was nominated to receive the Deputado Carlos Santos trophy in the category of Affirmative Policies Directed at black women, awarded by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The trophy is awarded to personalities who have worked or are working on behalf of the black community.
ConMujeres brings together LBT project groups
In October, the grantees through the LBT Project of ConMujeres (Consortium of Latin American and Caribbean Women's Funds) met in Guatemala to evaluate two years of activities. On this occasion, women from different parts of the Southern Cone had the opportunity to exchange experiences and share reflections.
Giving for change Award: winners to be announced on December 1st
No dia 01 de dezembro, às 19h, no Rio de Janeiro, acontece a apresentação dos vencedores do Prêmio Doar para Transformar. O evento, com entrada gratuita, será realizado na sede da Firjan (Avenida Graça Aranha, 01 – Centro). Participam dessa edição Instituto Avon, Instituto Consulado da Mulher, Fersol, Lojas Renner, Angela Moysés Nogueira Rodrigues e Tânia Mara Martines de Almeida. A iniciativa tem o apoio de Unifem, Firjan e Chevron e divulgação da Revista Pequenas Empresas Grandes Negócios, da Editora Globo.
Break the cycle: International Day of Non-Violence against Women
November 25th is the International Day of Non-Violence against Women. Data from the Secretariat for Women's Policies shows that reports of violence against women rose 112% from January to July 2010, compared to the same period last year. In the first seven months of this year, the Women's Call Center, a toll-free number for complaints, registered more than 300,000 calls, compared to around 160,000 in the same period last year.
International Seminar: Sexual Rights, Feminisms, Lesbianities: Diverse Perspectives
O Seminário Internacional: Direitos Sexuais, Feminismos, Lesbianidades – Olhares Diversos, organizado pela Associação Lésbica de Minas (ALEM) aconteceu entre os dias 03 e 05 de novembro, em Belo Horizonte (MG). O evento contou com a participação de 300 pessoas e teve como objetivo articular a temática da diversidade sexual, especialmente a lesbianidade, a outras categorias como raça, classe e aspectos geracionais para a compreensão e o enfrentamento da violência contra as mulheres.
Black Awareness Day: for women's rights black women
Black Awareness Day falls on November 20th. The date is dedicated to reflecting on the inclusion of black people in society. For example, research by the Ethos/Ibope Institute shows that only six black women are executives in the 500 largest Brazilian companies. Belgium hosts ELAS presentation event in November
No dia 11 de novembro, às 14h30min, será realizado no Centro de Culturas Piano Fabriek, em Bruxelas, na Bélgica, o primeiro encontro “Mulheres apoiando mulheres”. O evento é uma realização da Associação Art’Nativa Brasil e o ELAS e tem como objetivo lançar o Fundo no país, além de arrecadar recursos para apoiar os grupos de meninas, jovens e mulheres.

Dilma Rouseff goes down in history as Brazil's first female president. Today, less than 8% of the world's leaders are women. Counting the president, the group is made up of just 18 heads of state or government and includes names such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Argentinian President Cristina Krichner.

Bruno Maletta assina com Andiara Petterle o livro “Poderosas consumidoras: o que quer e que pensa a nova mulher brasileira”, lançado no mês de outubro. Através de pesquisas em todo o país, o volume mostra as mudanças vivenciadas pelas mulheres brasileiras. Destaca ainda que elas são responsáveis por movimentar 66% da economia – e que não estão satisfeitas pela maneira com que vêm sendo tratadas pelas empresas brasileiras. Saborearte opens in Jardim Batan (RJ)
Saborearte, a meals business in Jardim Batan (RJ), arrived in the community this November after six months of planning, training and a lot of effort to make a joint dream come true. The launch is part of the "Elas em Movimento" program, which is enabling women from Jardim Batan, Cidade de Deus and Borel to start building a business together. The initiative is a Chevron action through the ELAS Social Investment Fund. The total investment in the three communities is R$ 425 thousand.
Camtra held the Course "Exchanging Ideas: Young Women in Defense of their Rights"
From September 24 to 26, the Casa da Mulher Trabalhadora held the course "Exchanging Ideas: Young Women in Defense of their Rights". The training was another activity of the institution's Young Women's Nucleus, which seeks to contribute to the training and self-organization of young women in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. The organization received funding from ELAS, through the XI Project Competition, with the support of Unifem.
Sexual and reproductive rights: seminar highlights innovative strategies
On September 30 and October 1, ten grantees from the 13th Project Competition, whose theme is sexual autonomy and sexual and reproductive rights, met in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting focused on the communication strategies that will be used in the projects and sought to provide innovative reflections and suggestions.

In the Foundations and Institutes category, the Avon Institute and the Consulado da Mulher Institute are competing. In the Corporate category, Lojas Renner and Fersol are competing. And in the Individual category, we have the participation of donors from Camtra (RJ) and Coturno de Vênus (DF).
How to forget: a movie about loss
"How to Forget" opens on the national movie circuit on October 15th. The movie tells the story of Júlia, who struggles to rebuild her life after an intense relationship with Antônia. For the director, Malu De Martino, homosexuality is not one of the main focuses of the movie. "This is a movie about loss in which the two protagonists are homosexuals. In this sense, Brazilian cinema is a long way behind.
